London - Monaco about the event | Le Col Cycling
About the event:
We are delighted to announce the launch of our first London to Monaco Cycle Ride, 18 – 27 September 2016 in partnership with BLUE’s long-standing supporter, Winch Design.
This spectacular 10-day cycling event will take cyclists on a journey from The Tower of London to the Prince’s Palace in Monaco where riders will be welcomed personally by Prince Albert himself. Following a champagne arrival at the Palace, cyclists will enjoy a sponsored lunch hosted by ICON Connect.
The event promises to be an unforgettable cycling experience. Cyclists will cover 1400km, with terrain ranging from the rolling hills of Kent to the majestic Rhone Alps.
The team of 40 cyclists will be assisted by 17 highly trained staff, who will plan each of the ten stages down to the last detail. This includes support vehicles, motorbike outriders, mechanics and masseurs, as well as pre-arranged hotel bookings with food and refreshments, ensuring the highest standards are maintained from start to finish.
The arrival has been planned to coincide with the Monaco Yacht Show which starts the next day on 28 September.
‘Oceans are more than ever at the heart of our common future. Although they are subjected to sustained pressures , they also offer infinite solutions and unparalleled opportunities, whether of an ecological or economic nature, energy or food related.
Since 2012, my Foundation and the Blue Marine Foundation have made an important unified commitment to help protect the world’s oceans, with a number of joint initiatives focused on the protection and management of the marine environment. The first London to Monaco Cycle Ride is therefore a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness on the necessity to protect our fragile oceans.
I look forward to welcoming you in Monaco on September 27th 2016.’ HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco
How the money you raise will help:
Funds raised from the event will go towards two projects that will contribute significantly to ocean protection.
The beautiful Aeolian Islands to the north of Sicily are being threatened by overfishing and irresponsible tourism.
The beautiful Aeolian Islands to the north of Sicily are being threatened by overfishing and irresponsible tourism. Funds raised from the London to Monaco ride will help BLUE and our local partners build eco-moorings for sailing vessels so they don’t damage the sea grass beds when they anchor, engage local scientists to monitor and protect endangered marine species such as sperm whales and dolphins and introduce programmes to reduce the number of ‘ghost’ nets (discarded nets which trap species such as loggerhead turtles).
Your support will help BLUE’s work to open up other sources of income on the island, particularly science and eco-tourism so that 100% of the island’s waters (nearly twice the size of the UK) can become a marine protected area.
