"Having won the New Zealand national championships, I am so excited to get racing to show my new jersey off. It's always been a dream of mine wear the Silver Fern, so for it to become a reality is beyond words."

"Coming from the Southern Hemisphere into a Northern Hemisphere race calendar, I think the only real challenge is not doing too many races throughout December and January when it's peak racing season in NZ. If you manage that well then I think there are only benefits from living down here throughout the European winter. It makes it easy going out for training in sunny warm weather, especially since this is the time for base training with lots of kilometres."

"On the other hand, when I arrive back in Europe in February it's freezing. Much colder than a winter out in NZ, so I have to wrap up fairly well. For training I chuck on an baselayer with a long sleeve jersey, wear a pair of leg ウォーマー under my bibs or my favourite piece of kit, the Le Col Bib Tights.

"They're super comfy and warm. When it comes to racing at this time of year it's trickier. I never know what to wear but usually start with a undershirt and some arm and knee ウォーマー. For summer I try to keep it as uncomplicated as possible, just bibs and jersey, so the quality really counts."

"On the other hand, getting stuck with a long term perspective often leads you off track in the short term. Because you are focused on a big target, recognising when you're starting to head off track is harder, and it can be a little while before you notice there is a problem.

This is most commonly found when people over-train and don’t realise it until it is too late, by which time they need to take some time off and recover before getting back to the program."

"The race I'd love to win this year would be U23 Paris-Roubaix, I did it last year and had a blast but a few mechanicals and crashes put away any chance for a result which was disappointing. So I have unfinished business there."

Rob Scott - GBR - 20

"I've gotten into the habit of training through Zwift. It's great for the days where it’s bad weather or you just want a good hard session to fit within an hour. Personally I used to find riding on the turbo quite boring but Zwift has changed that and made the experience fun, which in turn makes the time go quicker!

I took part in the first ever pro-cycling e-race with the Zwift KISS League a month back. It was only my second time on it, but people gave me some tips on how to ride on Zwift as it does have some special skills needed. I took them onboard and cracked on with the race. The first 10 minutes was flat out and it didn’t really let up from there, just flat out for an hour, top training!"

"All the same, I have to confess that I'm lucky enough to be abroad for a few weeks during the winter. The better weather just makes longer rides more feasible. However, once I’m back in the UK, I'm looking to get into indoor training in a much bigger way. It’s much safer than riding on icy roads and you know that you can get a good session out of it. During the season if I need a good hard session I will definitely be using it."

"Wearing national champ colours on your jersey will always mean that you are marked, but it's an honour to ride for a British team in British colours. Racing smart as a team and using my head just as much as my legs, there's no reason to think we'll be crowded out of races."

"Of my days on the bike this winter, the worst day so far was definitely a ride I did with Chris Latham in December. It started to throw it down with rain which turned to sleet. We were riding over a moor with a block headwind barely touching 10kmph, grim!

I had a Le Col Pro Jacket in Orange on that day. I always wear that jacket when it’s quite dark and the weather isn’t so good because it’s so bright and visible. Also keeps you warm in the wet!"
