What inspired you to get into professional cycling, and what’s kept you motivated over the years?
I got into cycling with the soul ambition of getting fitter to be able to attempt climbing Everest at a young age, when I realised I couldn’t get to Everest that year my step dad and mum decided to send me to the Newport velodrome to see if I had any potential after one ride I was hooked! The camaraderie, the speed, the adrenaline and the potential of putting it all on the line for your teammates made it a sport that I couldn’t let go of!!
Looking back, what’s one pivotal moment in your career that defined you as a rider?
There was one moment that has stood with me for a long time, and that was working for Adam Blythe when he went on to win the London Surrey Classic on the Mall. This was an exceptional experience winning a home world tour race, and coming to the finish line with Bradley Wiggins after winning the Tour De France not much comes close to that moment!
What’s a misconception people have about pro cycling life?
The dedication and sacrifice at 17 years old I had one goal in mind going as far as I could in the sport, I left a social life, my school and I moved home as I put everything on red!
